My Mission and Methods I'm there fo r you and your dog: It is my goal as a dog trainer to help teach you how to train your dog, navigate and solve behavior problems, and understand your dog better so that you can succeed in your goals and live the best life you can with your dog. We will achieve this by using the dog approved training method of positive reinforcement (also known as force-free or reward-based), which stems from the science-based learning processes of classical conditioning and operant conditioning. These methods are proven to work with any type of dog to teach them valuable skills and build a strong bond with you at the same time. Meet Kaylei VSA-C DT-Online I started my journey by getting a B.S. in Zoology at the University of Maine with the idea of becoming a wildlife biologist. Unfortunately I found out it wasn’t for me, but I still wanted to work with animals. So, I became a vet assistant and did this for 4 years before deciding to change careers to become a dog trainer. I love being a vet assistant, but after adopting and training my dog, Kangaroo, I found a new passion and way I'd like to help people and their dogs. So many dogs struggle in trying to learn how our world works and what's expected of them, and it can be hard for people to learn how dogs work as well. That's where I come in and why I'm here. I am a graduate of the Victoria Stilwell Academy's Online Dog Trainer Course, and I will forever continue to expand my knowledge and keep up with the latest in dog training techniques. I do private in-person dog training lessons in Asheville, NC and surrounding areas, but I also offer online lessons to anyone in the US. Want to get to know me more before starting? Email me at thereforyoudogtraining@gmail.com or text 978-344-1629 to schedule a free meet and greet! Meet Kangaroo (AKA Roo)! Kangaroo is the inspiration for There For You Dog Training LLC and a precious member of the family. She is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that we adopted when she turned 2 years old in February of 2022. She’s from Arkansas and besides knowing she was once hit by a car and had hip surgery, her history is unknown to us. This smart girl is my assistant as she participates in online lessons to help me show owners how to train their dogs. Her hobbies include hiking, destroying toys, cuddling, sun bathing, looking for wildlife, and training. What is the Client Portal? Can I Login? The client portal is managed by PocketSuite. After I look at your form, I will contact you to let you know if I can help you out, and if so you can either request an appointment through the portal or with me while we're talking! Where do the training sessions take place? All training is private one-on-one sessions that take place in your home via live video chat. The only exception to this will be if we are working on Vet/Groomer Anxiety, these sessions will take place at your veterinarian's clinic or grooming salon. What training methods do you use? There For You Dog Training uses positive reinforcement methods. You may also hear it referred to as force-free or reward-based training, they are all the same thing! This means we do not use aversives to train your dog their skills or to change behavioral problems as we do not believe in using fear, intimidation, pain, or discomfort to help your dog be the best they can be. Are you insured? Yes, we are insured through Kennel Pro! What are your hours? I do appointments Monday & Tuesday from 8:30am-11:30am & 1:30pm until 5pm, and Thursday & Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm & 2:30pm until 6pm. I am currently closed Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

  • Vet and Groomer Stress | There For You Dog Tr

Vet and Groomer Stress Let's be honest, vet and groomer visits can be hard for you, your dog, and even the staff when your dog is highly stressed. Care doesn't always stop when you leave the vet or groomer either: having to give medications at home or wanting to be able to brush your dog between grooming visits can be hard as well. This is all known as "cooperative care." I'm here to help with the whole experience from care at home to visits your pup needs. I've been a vet assistant for 5 years now, so I know all the ins and outs of how vet visits go, what your dog needs to make everything less scary, and how to prepare them for all kinds of visits from vaccines to blood draws and everything in-between. All of the components listed below, except for "Happy Visits" can be done with my Day Training service, where you don't always have to be present for training! Click here to learn more about Day Training. Want to learn more or get started? You can either email me, or fill out a quick and easy form for me to contact you to go over everything by clicking the button below! GET STARTED! There are a lot of components to think about when it comes to reducing stress for everyone. We will tailor a specific plan for your dog's needs, whether they only need help with getting their ears cleaned or with every step of a vet visit. Below are the different parts I can help you and your dog with to help your dog be more comfortable. Happy Visits "Happy visits" entail going to the facility, but not necessarily getting anything done to your dog, and showing them it can be a nice place full of treats and great people. We will show our dogs that the lobby, exam rooms, people, and even the scale doesn't have to be scary. Tolerating Touch and Restraint At home we will work on getting your dog used to being touched from nose to tail, and in different ways from strokes and pokes, to prepare them for all the different ways they may need to be handled at the vet and groomer. We will also cover some impulse control games to help teach our pup to remain more still while they are being worked with. The Scary Tools Before we are able to use things like nail trimmers, brushes, and the bottle of ear wash with our dogs, we need to show them that they aren't scary. We do this by creating a more positive association with these items that need to be used. Once they are no longer scary, we can work on actually using them on our dogs. Teaching Behaviors to Help with Visits There are some skills we can teach our dogs that help with the process of being examined or groomed. For example, we can ask our dog to lie on their side for exams or nail trims or offer their face to look at their teeth or put a muzzle on. We can even teach our dogs to file their own nails down with a scratch board to help maintain them and have fewer nail trimming sessions. The video here is my dog Kangaroo showing some of these behaviors. Muzzle Conditioning Muzzles are a great tool to keep everyone safe, just in case your dog is really scared or in pain. When conditioned and fitted properly, a dog can wear a muzzle comfortably just like they do a collar or harness! You never want to just put one on your dog's face without conditioning as this can be stressful and they may injure themselves trying to paw it off.
